. . . a knitter & spinner's journey

A frog of a weekend . . .

Saturday night was not my night to knit. I should have known better than to knit when I was tired. It all started with my Shapely Tank. I am trying despartely to get this done so that I can start Soleil. So I’m knitting away and all of a sudden I realize that I’ve been decreasing when I should have been increasing. So I take a good look at it and realize that I’m going to have to frog a good 2 inches of it. So I set it aside and pick up Branching Out. Now I’ve already started this one half a dozen times but things seemed to be going well. Until I hit the 5th row of the pattern . . . somehow I ended up with fewer stitches than I should have. Must have missed some yo’s. So I tried to tink it and that was a disaster. So I set that aside and picked up the dishcloth I was working on. This is supposed to be my mindless knitting . . . no thinking involved . . . it’s easy right? Wrong! I screwed up somewhere but I just fudged it (it’s a dishcloth afterall) and finished it up. So today I spent frogging my tank top and Branching Out. I’ve got pictures below of my newly made progress so this weekend wasn’t a total loss. :)

Branching Out

I’ve finally made some progress on Branching Out. I’ve frogged it at least 8 times already. I have now completed two repeats of the pattern and am really starting to enjoy it! Posted by Hello

Scarf for my brother

I just finished working in the ends on this scarf for my brother. He is coming to school in Michigan next year and I thought he could use a nice warm scarf! I have to put the fringe on it yet. Posted by Hello

Ta da . . . my very first pair of socks!

I am very proud of my first pair of socks. After watching them being made on DIY Network’s Knitty Gritty I knew I could make them too! They are made with Lush which is 50% angora/50% wool. They are soooooooooo soft!! I didn’t make them quite long enough for myself so they are going to be a Mother’s Day gift to my mom. Once I got going I really loved working with the double pointed needles. It was a lot of fun and there are more socks in my future! Posted by Hello

First scarf . . .

I made this garter stitch scarf made from Lion Brand Trellis. Trellis is a ribbon yarn that is laddered and is difficult to work with as I was always putting the point of my needle through the “holes” in the yarn. This picture doesn’t do the scarf justice. Posted by Hello

First FO (finished object) . . .

The first project I completed was a small purse which I made out of some Red Heart acrylic that I had lying around.Posted by Hello

Beginnings . . .

So this is my very first blog. I just started knitting about 4 months ago and about 1 month ago I discovered knitty.com and the message boards there. They are a great bunch of ladies! Funny and so very helpful too. So after looking at some of their blogs I decided that I had to start one for myself. So . . . . . . here it is!!
