. . . a knitter & spinner's journey

Is it the weekend yet?

I don’t think this week or day can go any slower. Just because I’m all psyched to be leaving for Florida tomorrow time has decided to stand still . . . maybe even go backward. DH and I are going to Lake Placid, FL to visit his dad. I so need a break from work and the thought of sitting around knitting all weekend is heavenly! My FIL has a float boat and lives on a lake so I’ll be soaking up the sun and knitting til my heart’s content . . . sigh. Why oh why is the clock against me? I could swear that it is moving backwards. Oh well . . . I’ll get there eventually . . . I hope . . .

Socks of the second pair

I started a pair of socks this weekend. OK . . . so I only started one of the socks but I still started. I’ve done the cuff, leg, heel flap, turned the heel and started on the gusset. I can’t believe how fast this is knitting up! I just love socks! Posted by Hello

First felting project

My first felting project . . . the French Market Bag. I think if I make this again I would knit more rows because it ended up shorter than I would have liked. But I love it and had a blast felting it! Posted by Hello

A weekend of firsts. . .

What an exciting weekend it has been! I had a lot of knitting firsts this weekend and I am giddy with excitement! First off I managed to seam my shapely tank. This is my first garment and first time doing mattress stitch. It was so cool to watch the stitches lining up and the seam forming. Now I just have to finish weaving in ends and do the neck and armholes. The greatest news is that it fits!! Just like it’s supposed to! I was screaming and jumping around because my first garment ever fit. I can’t wait to finish it and wear it.

Secondly I did Kitchner stitch for the first time to graft the handles of the French Market Bag which brings me to my other first. First time felting! The bag is in the washer right now. First check looked good but there was still stitch definition so I put it back in. When I get it blocked I will post pics of it.

So I’ve had a rather exciting weekend!

Life is back to normal . . . I think . . .

Well the family has left. My cats are traumatized and my house is in chaos. I must be crazy to think that 5 people could live in a house for 3 days with only 3 bedrooms and 1 1/2 baths. Actually it’s more like 2 bedrooms since the third one is used as the computer room and there is no way you could put a bed of any kind in it. So my parents got the guest room and my brother slept on an air mattress in the basement rec room. Then having only one bathroom with a shower . . . yikes! I think I need a bigger house . . .

Now I just need to get my house back in order and get back to my regular routines. Don’t get me wrong . . . I love having family visit . . . I just like getting back to “normal,” whatever that is.

I didn’t get to knit very much this weekend but I did do a couple of rows on the FMB and my mom wanted to see how lace knitting was done so I did one full pattern repeat on Branching Out. They did bring some photos of the spinning wheel that they are giving me. I have to scan them and then I can post them. I also want to take some progress pics of what I’m working on.

So I bid you all happy knitting as my life hopefully calms down and returns to normal!
