Knitamazoo(tm)

. . . a knitter & spinner's journey

And yet more socks . . .

Maybe it’s time I found something new to knit. I’m sure you’re all getting tired of coming here and seeing nothing but socks, socks and more socks. But I truly am stuck in a vicious cycle of sock knitting. Ever since I learned how to do socks on 2 circs I can’t stop. It’s so fast!

So here are my finished socks from class. I’ve been calling them camo socks ’cause they look like camouflage. They were knit in Koigu KPPPM on 24″ size 2 Addi Turbos. Our class was so sad that we weren’t going to meet anymore that we all decided to meet again this Wednesday night at the store and knit.

I also finished the mate to my first Stripey. I didn’t bother trying to match the stripes on this pair. I just let the yarn do it’s thing. They were knit with Plymouth Sockatta on 24″ size 2 Addi Turbos.

I am now working on the one’s I started with the yarn sent to me by my last SP. Those are being done on size 1’s so I’m sure they’ll take a little longer.

I cast on another pair on the size 2’s but I’m not sure if I like how the fabric is coming out. I’m thinking it’s a little too loose for socks but I want to knit some more on them before passing judgment.

Knittyboard SP6 has started. I’ve claimed my awesome downstream pal and my fantastic upstream pal has claimed me. I’m really excited that I get to participate again in this round. I just love sending stuff to brighten someone else’s day and it’s also fun to get little packages in the mail. (Especially since the only mail I get is junk mail.)

Well that’s it. I’m still doing moves/removes at work so I’m exhausted and sore. At least after this week I’m done for awhile.

I’m stuck in a sock

Well more precisely a sock knitting rut. I just can’t stop. All my other projects sit languishing in my knitting bag while I crank out sock after lovely sock.

My last socks on 2 circs class was last night. I managed to do a couple of yo’s while doing gusset decreases (kind of defeats the purpose of decreases). So now I have a couple of nice little “holes” in my sock. I decided that trying to rip it back would be too much trouble and tinking that far is out of the question. So I decreased the extra stitches and will close up the holes when I’m done. It will be much better on my delicate psyche right now.

This week hasn’t gotten much better. Though I did beg off doing the moves today as my ankle is still sore and I’m hobbling around. And now I found out I have to go fill out an accident report for when I took the mirror off the side of the van. I’ll be so glad when this week is over.

To cheer myself up I bought some more sock yarn last night at my class. I had birthday money to spend, so spend I did! Lots of lovely sock yarn! And guess what . . . I got a belated birthday card with a check from my MIL so now I have even more yarn money! Whee! I’m even adding sock yarn to my KnitPicks wishlist for my new SP.

Well that’s it. Maybe tomorrow or this weekend I’ll be able to post pics of my finished socks on 2 circs.

Yay! More socks!

I’m getting too old for this . . .

OK, so Monday was my birthday. Hubby surprised me on Sunday and had me pick out seats so he could order tickets to see Phantom of the Opera in April! I’ve wanted to see this musical for years and what makes it extra special is that hubby absolutely hates musicals. And that’s the only good thing that has happened in the last few days.

Starting this past Monday I am on moves/removes at work for two weeks. That means that any office moves or removal of pc equipment gets done by yours truly. I’ve twisted my ankle, had laptops chained to desks, had people try to have me move them into a different space than the one they were supposed to move into, I’ve lifted 21″ monitors which feel like they weigh 550 lbs (and this really should be a 2 person lift . . . I’m just saying) and the list goes on. I came home Monday night and had to lay on a heating pad most of the night due to soreness in my lower back. So today I have only one move and one remove that I absolutely have to do. Both are in the largest building on our campus. When I say large I mean that it is 1/4 mile from one end of the building to the other. I have no idea how wide the stupid building is. So I park the van at the end of the ramp (oh yeah, backing down this same ramp yesterday I managed to rip the side mirror right off the company van . . . oops!) and have to walk, er limp, to the other end of the building. The move went smoothly. So I go to pick up “a computer” and it turns out to be 4 computers and monitors and keyboards and mice. I managed to get all of that on my cart and pushed it all the way back to the ramp. By the time I got it all unloaded into the van and then back on the cart when I got back to the shop, my arms and hand hurt so badly. Right now I can hardly lift anything or move my arms at all. I tried playing the piano when I was home but that didn’t work out so well. I’m afraid that I might not be able to knit for several days and I have my last socks on 2 circs class tonight.

Speaking of class, here is a pic of my progress. I’ve had so much fun in this class that I think I’m going to sign up for the toe up sock class.

Well that’s it from my old, tired and sore little corner of the world. Hope you all are having a better week than I am.

Parade of socks

Socks rock! I am in this crazy sock knitting groove and I can’t seem to knit anything else. So I give you my parade of socks.

First off my autumn socks. These have been finished since New Year’s and I’ve finally taken a photo. My excuse, um, too busy knitting socks to pick up the camera. These were knit with Lana Grossa Meilenweit sockyarn on size 2 Clover bamboo dpn’s. I tried to get the stripes to come out the same but it didn’t quite work out. The legs are great and the feet are close. But who cares, they’ll be in my shoes anyway and even if they aren’t I don’t care. I love these socks!

Next up are a pair of socks that I like to call my Socks of Fury. No, they didn’t make my furious but the color of the yarn is called Fury. (I’m just noticing that one sock looks larger in both of my pictures. Must have been the angle I took the photo at as both socks are really the same size. Really, really!) These were knit with some wonderful yarn from my SP Choomon. It’s Shelridge Farms wool/nylon blend. These were also knit on size 2 Clover bamboo dpn’s.

Here is the sock I’m working on for my socks on 2 circs class. Our homework was to work down the leg and stop at the heel flap. It was really hard not to keep going! The yarn is Koigu KPPPM and is knit on 2 size 2 24″ Addi Turbo circs. I finished the cuff in class and knit the leg the next night. It goes so fast! And guess what they told us in class! The LYS has placed an order for Socks that Rock yarn!! I can’t wait!! In the meantime, I decided not to get ahead of the class, so I slipped the sock off the circs and onto some spare size 2 needles and cast on another sock in a different yarn.

This is what I got . . . the first sock of the pair I’m calling Stripey. This was knit on the 24″ size 2 Addi Turbos with Plymouth Sockotta yarn. I wasn’t able to cast on for the second sock as my class is tonight and I needed to put my class sock back on the needles. But as soon as I finish the homework for tonight’s class, sock #2 of this pair will be done.

And since I couldn’t be without a sock that I could work on, I headed to the LYS on Monday and picked up 2 Addi Turbo 24″ size 1 circs and started these. The yarn was again from my lovely SP Choomon and is Lang Jawool Cotton superwash. I also picked up some more Koigu KPPPM while at the LYS. But, I neglected to take a picture. (Couldn’t put down the needles long enough to use the camera. Seriously!) Maybe there will be a little yarn pr0n tomorrow.

So that’s the end of the sock parade. We now return you to your regularly scheduled knitting.

Socks and circs . . .

Well, my new posistion at work keeps me quite busy so I generally don’t have time to update the blog, check other blogs, check the knitty boards, chat. Kind of a bummer. This morning my hubby was leaving for work when he says to me, “Haven’t updated your blog in awhile have you?” When he notices, I guess it’s time to do something about it. So I’m stealing a few moments today so that I can update you all on what I’m doing.

First are the socks I’m making out of some yarn that I received from my Secret Pal. It’s Shelridge Farms wool/nylon blend and the color is called Fury. I’ve been working the socks at the same time. I cast on and knit the cuff for one and then did the same for the other. Leg for one, leg for the other, heel for one, heel for the other and so on. I’m hoping to get them finished this weekend as I’ll have lots of time to work on them. Monday is a holiday at work so I’ll be doing a fair amount of knitting this weekend.

I also have to finish up the homework for my first ever knitting class. The first of three classes was last night and I had a blast! I know I could have picked up the concept of knitting socks on 2 circulars but I wanted to be able to sit around with other people who are obsessive about knitting and totally understand my compulsion to buy yarn. My yarn is Koigu KPPPM and we’re using 16″ Addi’s in a size 2 and I’m loving this technique! I got the cuff done last night and we need to knit the leg before next Wednesday. My only problem is, I’ll probably have that much done in the next couple of days and I won’t want to stop. I am also tempted to put this sock on some stitch holders, start the mate and when they are at the same stage put this one back on the needles and do 2 at once. But I probably shouldn’t get ahead of the class. The next one’s I do though I will definitely be trying to do both socks at the same time.

Well, time to get back to work.

The house is strangely quiet . . .

Well Christmas has come and gone and my house is now empty. Mom and Dad were the last to leave and they left Thursday before New Year’s. I didn’t move from the couch for a couple of days and managed to finish these socks. (I know this isn’t a picture of the finished ones, but I haven’t gotten around to taking it yet.)

I had a wonderful time over the holidays. My Mom, brother, his fiance and I did a special musical program for church. We even remembered to take some pictures while we were still dressed up. I just now noticed that my hubby was the only one not wearing dark colors. Guess he didn’t get the memo. Anyway, you can see that we did have a white Christmas. It warmed up and rained after Christmas day so all the snow is gone but I’m sure it will be back very soon.

Santa was very good to us. I couldn’t believe the amount of gifts under our tree. I don’t know how we got them all under there but we did. Cosmo was the only kitty who was interested in Christmas at all this year and his interest was limited to this stupid pink troll head that was in the stocking of cat toys that we bought.

My Mom did such an awesome job shopping for me! But really, how could she go wrong buying yarn and needles? It was so funny when I unwrapped the sock yarn. I bought the exact same color of Sockatta yarn earlier this year when we went to Frankenmuth. What was really strange was that the ball she bought was the same dye lot as the one I bought. Crazy! She also got me some Addi Turbos, some Inox (since I haven’t seen them around here), Fiddlesticks dpn’s in size 1 and Clover bamboo dpn’s in size 2. Now I can have both socks of a pair going at the same time.

My lovely future sister-in-law gave me a gift certificate to one of my LYS’s. Isn’t she just the sweetest? I spent that and some of my Christmas money on this yummy yarn. Three skeins of Noro Kureyon, a ball of Sockatta, 2 hanks of Koigu KPPPM, 1460 yds. of some yummy laceweight (and no I can’t tell you what it is as I’m at work and I can’t remember), and a 52″ (I think) Denise cable. The Monday after Christmas Mom, Dad, hubby and I went to Frankenmuth. While there we hit the outlets, Bronner’s Christmas store and I of course made them stop at Zeilinger’s Wool shop where I found the patterns for the Fibertrends Flower Basket shawl and the Sheep shawl. That laceweight is destined for one or both of these.

So vacation is over and I’m back at work. My new position at work keeps me fairly busy so I haven’t had as much time to update my blog or join chat which is a bummer. But my days are going by pretty quickly. And speaking of jobs, my hubby got a call yesterday and was offered a job that he had a phone interview for the day before. It’s a 6-month contract back where he was before. Even though it’s only a 6-month thing at least he’ll have his foot in the door and other projects are coming up all the time.

I almost forgot. Now that hubby is employed again, I signed up for my first ever knitting class at my LYS. I’m going to learn socks on 2 circs! I really want to be able to do them both at the same time and am really excited to be taking a class. It starts next Wednesday and I am about to burst!

Well that’s it for now. I hope that everyone had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! And now I think I’m going to go join Cosmo.
